GLAAD's Red Carpet Gala at the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway Home

GLAAD's Red Carpet Gala & Silent Auction
Silent Auction Package Include LGBT Marriage Equality Package, "Ugly Betty" Walk On Package

Fort Lauderdale, FL – An LGBT Marriage Equality Package with vows performed by the Mayor of Cambridge, Mass., an “Ugly Betty” Walk On Package to coincide with the spring taping of the hit ABC television show, and a Hollywood (California) Entertainment Experience Package with tickets to watch a taping of the television show “Chelsea Lately” are among the dozens of unique silent auction items that were up for bid at the GLAAD’s Red Carpet Gala and Silent Auction Extravaganza that took place on November 7, 2009 in Fort Lauderdale.

Hundreds of guests showed up at the posh Intracoastal Waterway home of John Evans and Steve Wozencraft, hosts for the fundraiser, which benefits the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). GLAAD is committed to building public support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality in Florida and across the country by promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of LGBT people in the media, and by fighting anti-LGBT defamation. Thanks to generous corporate partners, all proceeds from the event will directly benefit GLAAD’s work.

The November 7 event was from 7 to 11 PM, with a pre-event VIP party that took place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. aboard a private yacht moored at the venue, 2716 Barcelona Drive, located off East Las Olas Boulevard at Seven Isles Drive, Fort Lauderdale. Alibi Catering handled the food and beverages at the event; ABSOLUT Vodka was donated for the guests.

The Boston Wedding Package features Cartier wedding bands, vows performed by Denise Simmons, the openly-gay Mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts, who performed that state’s first legal same-sex marriages, as well as photography by Marilyn Humphries, the photographer of “Courting Equality,” the definitive photo album documenting the fight for gay marriage in Massachusetts, and accommodations at Boston’s luxurious Colonnade Hotel.

The Hollywood Experience package kicks off with two round-trip tickets to Los Angeles on Southwest Airlines, and two nights at the Hotel Palomar Los Angeles. It includes four VIP tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood, plus a visit to the set of Fox Television’s hit series, “24” and a “meet and greet” with stars from the show. It also offers four tickets to watch a taping of E! Entertainment’s “Chelsea Lately” show hosted by Chelsea Handler.

Travel packages to New York and San Francisco were offered as part of the silent auction, as were weekend stays at luxury South Florida hotels such as the W Fort Lauderdale, Westin Diplomat and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Unique gift options will also be available, including jewelry items and original movie posters from camp classics such as “The Gay Senorita” and “Two Latins from Manhattan.”

“We’re creating a memorable event so guests can have a great time and provide much-needed support to GLAAD,” said B. Rodney White of Hollywood, FL, who co-chairs GLAAD’s South Florida Leadership Council with Maria Lescano. “GLAAD’s work to bring fair and accurate stories of LGBT people and issues to Americans is needed today, especially in Florida.”

Media co-sponsors for GLAAD’s Red Carpet Gala include BocaRaton.com, FortLauderdaleBites.com, South Florida Blade, 411 Magazine, Hotspots Magazine, Latino Boys Magazine, Wire Weekly, Ambiente Magazine, She Magazine, Edgeftlauderdale.com, Autostraddle.com and Mack Planet.
